The Highlights

Browse through a few of our projects to understand the kind of work that we do here at Agora Architecture. The projects below are only a small portion of what we have accomplished in 93 years - email us at for more information.

90% of the Winfield Newell-Rubbermaid Facility was completed by this firm over the years. Newell-Rubbermaid has been a long-standing and very faithful client. Winfield is very lucky to have such industrial giants in it's territories providing jobs and revenue to the area. Agora's contribution to the vast facilities include the 12th Street Facility, the GTX offices, Breakroom Addition, Parking Lot Additions, Office Space Remodels and Additions, several more Plant Additions, Silo Additions and much more. The people of Newell-Rubbermaid are always fantastic to work with and make every project smooth.

This impressive - a state-of-the-art, only a few in America, 5 Axis Milling Machine came to Winfield. This project entailed a new warehouse to house the milling machine and a few offices. The table for the CNC Machine is approximately sixty feet long and twenty feet wide. The foundation for this machine is just as big and approximately ten feet deep. This took fifty concrete trucks to pour. The building houses offices for machining programmers and engineers in the front where you see the wondows - a rare quality in industrial offices. A court yard to the south of the building is an employee break and relaxation area with shade structures and tables.

This turned out to be a great and very high-tech facility for the employees.

Fluid Kinetics is an industrial asset to the community of Winfield, KS and we were honored to design their new shop and breakroom and office mezzanine. The original building was a spec building funded by Winfield Economic Development. It was built in the Winfield Industrial Park as a basic warehouse with office spaces. When Fluid Kinetic purchased the facility we were able to complete the addition which included coordination of special equipment, expansion of their equipment rails, bridge  cranes and added a second electrical service to power it all. The site had it's challenges - there were drainage and slopes that were limiting. However, with a relatively tight budget and a fantastic group of people to work with the project came together.

Working with Zeeco was seamless, quick and painless. The project was simple and the result was incredible. Zeeco purchased the old Gordon and Piatt facility at Strother Field and used our services to give it a face lift and new entrance. This project allowed us to be creative in an industrial setting. Utilizing corten steel panels to bring attention to the entrance and corrugated steel to wrap the base of the sign.

The new Campus, located on 18 acres in Wellington, Kansas, is currently under construction. The Technology and Innovation Center is complete and construction continues for the second building, the Short General Education Center. The Technology and Innovation Center is a 17,163 square foot building that houses instructional spaces for Information Technology, Agriculture, Welding, Machine Tooling, Mechatronics, Non-Destructive Testing as well as General Classroom and Science Lab space. The Short General Education Center is a 24,355 square foot, three story building that will house Classrooms, Lecture Spaces, Faculty Offices, Conference Rooms, a Student Resource Center, a Kitchen and Dining Area and a large Community Room that will easily accommodate one-hundred people for banquets, meetings or receptions. This space will also be utilized as a  large Lecture Room. This building is named after the Marjorie Short Family who generously donated the 18-acre site the Campus is located on.

Southwestern College was in need of a modern student hangout space that drew students together. An underutilized, 1000 square foot space in the campus library was selected for a coffee shop and future campus store, with a conservative budget of about $100,000 and a desire to reuse as much of the existing space and finishes as possible. Agora Architecture helped them get the most out of this small area by creating a uniquely shaped coffee bar and flexible and varied seating options including work surfaces and integrated outlets. The space can be reconfigured and opened up for larger gatherings and events. Hidden doors on tracks completely enclose the back work counter when the coffee shop is closed, so the area can always be used for library seating. Distinctive lighting, furniture, and deep colors provide interest and freshness to the popular space.

Webb-brown academic center

cowley College - arkansas city, ks

This building has, at times, become the face of Cowley College marketing material and we can see why. The Webb-Brown Academic Center includes student classrooms, study areas and dynamic spaces designed for maximum learning capabilities.

77 Steps AT Southwestern College

Winfield, KS

The 77 Steps are the “heart of the hill” and the main entrance to the Christy Administration Building, the focal point of Southwestern College campus. This design-build project was a reconstruction of the original steps. The original feel and ambiance of the steps was recreated using cast-in-place concrete construction with minimal expansion and construction joints. The design challenge was providing the required landing and design appropriate lighting which the original stairs did not have. The other challenge was there had to be 77 steps - it was a fun puzzle! The firm also had to be conscious of the of the builder, because it was going to prove challenging to build on the slope. This was a project that many would never have known it would be challenging, but had to be done to perfection as it represents the Main Entrance to a beautiful college. The firm, and we believe the community, is very pleased with the result.

We suggest taking a trot up the "77", you will be glad for those occasional landings.

This announcer box, concession, and restroom addition to the existing softball field was challenging and fun. A 900 square foot, 2 story building built in a tight space on a tight budget turned out perfectly. This project features split face CMU with glazed CMU and metal inset accents, a standing seam metal roof and an exterior stair. New utilities and accessible site paving for vendor trailers was added.

In the making we have a Surgery, Central Supply and Emergency Room Hospital Addition. The above rendering of the Pre-Op and Post-Op rooms is only the beginning of what is to come. Check back for details as time goes on and be looking down 5th street in Winfield to see the changes.

We were commissioned to design this medical office building before the original hospital project was complete. The medical office building addition houses some of the hospital functions that were lacking in the original building - both the physical therapy department and the hospital's business offices. The office/waiting spaces include: a suite with three doctors, meetings and conference rooms, and waiting rooms for physical therapy and another doctor's suite. The building is a total of 11,500 sq/ft. The exterior design emulates that of the original hospital to provide design continuity throughout the campus. The covered walkway provides weather protection and adds to the aesthetic appeal. It was a pleasure providing architectural services for the two projects that would ultimately complete the South Central Medical Center.

It holds true in every project that the facility is never "ours" but is always the result of our Client's dreams. This project is no exception. When Rob and Janet Carroll came to us they had every light fixture, wall covering, bathroom stall (tailgates), bar stool, and every other detail decided and all they needed was an architect to put together a floor plan to bring it all together. Utilizing the old train station on the corner of 5th and Main in Winfield, the Carroll's added a state-of-the-art kitchen, and entrance area to the existing. The pictures don't lie, you are only moments from the train tracks, but it only adds to the dining experience. From the trays you eat on, to the fixtures over your table, to the nails in the floor - Rob Carroll and his crew made every detail perfect. Of course, the food is amazing too. All-in-all this is a must-see place in Winfield.

Flint Oak Hunting resort

fall river, ks

This addition features a magnificent fireplace, a fully-equipped and totally huge bar, and a beautiful view. We were honored to be selected to design the gathering space for "America's Premier Hunting Resort" near Fall River, Kansas. This addition provided much needed space for hunters to relax and relive their experiences of the day. With excellent guidance from the resort staff we were able to create an exceptional space. The addition features a fantastic view of Flint Oak's hunting grounds. We also upgraded the resort merchandise shop providing everything from clothing to firearms and hunting supplies. Our mission was to add to the fine ambiance of the resort. Overall, this is a place you just have to see for yourself -

The South Annex building had a prior use - the building was designed for and occupied by First Federal Savings and Loan. The firm did both the original building and the renovation for Cowley County. The stand-alone structure boasts traditional colonial styling throughout. The county  modified the building to meet their needs and are fully occupying the facility. The building's parking lot also gave the county some much needed off-street parking. The interior layout includes a secure area in the basement for county emergency dispatch, tag and taxes offices and waiting area on the main floor and more office spaces on the second floor. Some of our favorite features are the big windows that allow light to flood into many office spaces, making for a better work environment. Also, many desks have a standing option and the secure area in the basement is a site to see.

Remodeling downtown storefronts is one of our specialties. We have done to many to count and pictured are a few of our favorites. In an old city like Winfield and many of the surrounding communities, there are beautiful old buildings in need of repair. Visionaries within our communities buy these buildings and bring our downtowns to life. We try to do out part by making this a simple and step-by-step process that yields outstanding results.

Durability and organization was the driving concept behind the design of this sports complex. The complex includes five baseball fields and dugouts accommodating T-Ball through college level baseball, six soccer fields, batting cages, and a little league football field. Main features include shade canopies, planters, and centrally located restrooms and concessions.

holy name catholic church - parish hall

winfield, ks

Designed by Cheri Hulse, a faithful attender, this project was in part so successful because Cheri could work closely with decision makers to design a beautiful vision. The church renovation consisted of everything from windows to the tile in the floor, to the blue ceiling. Breathtaking.

Cumbernauld retirement village

Winfield, KS

In 1989 the firm was commissioned to create a complete retirement complex with a variety of residential options. The options vary from single family homes to duplexes, apartments, assisted living and nurse care. The grounds surrounding the facility are terrific and the village as a whole, turned out to be a beautiful and tranquil place. The entire facility is designed in a modified English Cotswold Architectural Style. Our latest project for Cumbernauld is an Age to Age Classroom.

We are currently adding space for an Age-to-Age Classroom to benefit both the occupants and young kids. We suggest a visit to the village to view the waterfall, the lake and the beautiful architecture.

The firm is known for it's traditional residential architecture, but contemporary residential architecture is created in the firm as well. There are striking examples of various contemporary architecture in the firm's portfolio as well, and this home is one of them. This home, designed by Merrill K. Gordon, a former owner, is a great example of this contemporary style. Merrill actually designed this home for he and his family. Driving through this neighborhood, this is a beautiful home for it's differences.

This 7,000 square foot beauty features 2 stories, 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, multiple fireplace settings, 1 office and a formal living area that opens onto 1,000 square feet of cantilevered desk with a wood trellis, and a built-in saltwater aquarium. The kitchen and family room also open to an outdoor eating area. On the lower level, the family room and bar opens to a pool/billiards space. All trim throughout the house is wood and custom painted. The entrance boasts custom redwood entry doors and a trellis over the walk-way that carries through over the back deck. The interior spaces feel open and light with an open and varied ceiling plan. Outside, the lowest level of deck features a fish pond and the entire house is backed up to the golf course.   |   800 Main Street Suite 308, Winfield, Kansas 67156   |   620.221.3770
